uPro GPS Review.
Taking the guesswork out of golf!
Digi Caddie has undertaken extensive research on the top selling GPS models.
On this page we review the uPro GPS
uPro Golf GPS.Price: $399.95
Annual Subscription: No membership fees.
Windows Compatible: Yes. Microsoft XP and Vista
MAC Compatible: Yes MAC OSX 10.4 or later.
The uPro Golf GPS is unlike any other that we have seen. and it has some unique features and pricing systems.
When buying a uPro Golf GPS you have a choice of a "Basic" or a "Pro" mode. Obviously the latter has more features than the former. It also costs a bit more once you start downloading the courses you need.
Essentially the basic mode is the standard GPS system albeit with fantastic resolution (320 x 240 pixels).
The "Pro" mode on the other hand adds another dimension called "Video Flyover view". This is similar to the view you would see on TV when they take you through a hole from tee to green. It includes very good graphics of the entire hole, tee box, fairway, trees, hazards and includes undulations and slopes.
Very impressive graphics indeed.
Pros:
- The uPro Golf GPS comes with incredible graphics with a high resolution color screen - 320 x 240 pixels with a back light.
- Claim to be thinner sleeker and lighter than any other GPS.
- Covers all golf courses in America.
- Smartview gives the player 3 different views allowing detailed planning of shots.
- Rechargeable lithium ion battery.
- Has a unique patented technology called 'anypoint' whereby the player can measure a distance to any point on the hole. This is better than a range finder as exact distances can be measured to non mapped objects without a line of sight. Effectively combining all the advantages of a GPS and a rangefinder in one.
- Comes with a 6 month warranty and a 30 day performance guarantee with a 15% charge for restocking and packaging.
- No software to install.
- On purchasing your uPro Golf GPS you get one free 'pro' mode course to download regardless of the plan you select. So you can always have your favorite course in pro mode with the video view.
- Wide range of courses to choose from on a 'pay as you load basis'. Price varies depending on mode selected as follows:
- For Pro Mode:
- 1 course for $ 10.00
- 5 courses for $ 40.00
- 10 courses for $ 60.00
- 20 courses for $ 80.00
- 50 courses for $120.00
- For Basic Mode:
- All Course downoads are free.
- Price, price and price!
- Expensive to download courses especially if you are only going to play a course once which many people do on holiday.
- Seems limited to USA.
Conclusion:
This is a great looking unit but because of price we were unable to really test it out and had to go on what we have been able to learn from the web site - a website with great marketing graphics.
We feel that this model is only going to appeal to a few people who insist on having the best graphics and all the extra bells and whistles.
We can't and won't argue with that but do wonder if we are here to play golf or watch TV?
We had no experience with customer service to report on.
